Bike idles low when choke is on, turn off choke engine quits. Experiencing
lack of power, no apparent smoke from the exhaust, bike has a new fuel
pump (I thought this was the problem) any suggestions.

Has the bike been sitting around not being run for a long time?

Motorocycles which have diaphragm carburetors (they have a big round cover on
the top of them) rely a lot on fuel passing through the rather large idle
jets...

Your idle jets are probably getting plugged up with gum and varnish and rust
particles from the inside of the gas tank...

Run some fuel system cleaner (only about 3 ounces per treatment) through 3
tanks of gas...

If that doesn't clean the carbs up so the bike idles again, you'll have to
disassemble the carbs for cleaning...

I agree that it is almost certainly dirty carbs.

There is a product called Yamaha carburetor cleaner that he might try.
It is not for mixing with gasoline, you mix it with water, disconnect
the fuel supply hose from the carburetors, drain the carbs, then fill
them up with the mixture. You leave the mixture in the carbs for an
hour, or overnight in really bad cases, then drain and reconnect the
supply hose to the tank/fuel pump as the case may be.

This is from memory, the bottle is out in the garage and I can't be
bothered to go out and retrieve it.

I have read nothing but superlative reviews of the Yamaha carb cleaner
product. My own results were inconclusive (I thought I had clogged
carbs but now I don't believe that I did).

To be honest, I've never been much of a believer in chemical fixes
for clogged jets and passages. Disassembly, lots of spray carb
cleaner, and compressed air do it for me. In really exceptionally
bad cases a dip basket product may be the only answer.
