I am looking to buy the above bike. Does anyone have any comments or are
there any known problems for that particular model.

1985 is a 700, not a 750 unless it's a really rare one...

Nice bike if it is well maintained IMHO. Has speedo, tach, fuel guage,
self-cancelling turn signals at that year, shaft drive and relatively quick.
It's clearly the fastest Vulcan made too except for the Mean Streak and
probably the new 2000...

I've got the '86 750 and belong to a Yahoo group with about 900 other VN7xx
series owners. You might want to check it out for further details:

Oops... Forgot to address this. it does have a weak system... just about
everyone who owns one chooses to immediately upgrade to either a Yuasa or
WestCo sealed gel battery to avoid blowing the electrical system. Some
folks relocate the components to the side of the bike with a $5 procedure
and some put a fuse in... A few even add volt meters to their "dash" to
keep an eye on the system...

Weak points other than the electrical are:

- Slushy front end although the '85 has air fill-able forks which make them
adjustable.

- A stock seat that will leave you sore after a 300+ mile run - usually
upgraded to a Mustang but sometimes Corbin or Saddleman. Mustang for long
hauls, Corbin for sportiness and Saddleman to be eccentric.

- Although the bike has been popular since 1985 and is STILL sold today for
under $7k (sometimes as low as $5500 brand new!) in Kawasaki dealers across
the US, the aftermarket product list is short. We have that huge Yahoo
group so I always find what I need, but if you don't plan on joining there
or vroc.org, you will have a hard time finding anything for it. Period.

I take 500+ mile rides every now and then on mine and have no real
problems... I have put on just about 8k miles since getting it a while back
and have had no problems to speak of...

Thanks for the info everyone. I looked at Vulcan's features, price
differential (new and old) and bought a new Suzuki Volusia SE!
