I have a yamaha 125L dirt bike. It is a 2003 model. It starts fine
when it has been used recently (2 or 3 kicks) but if it sets unused for
a while it takes a lot of kicks to get it started. If I leave it for a
week it takes about 7 or 8 kicks to start, which isn't a problem but if
it hasn't been started in a month you have to kick for 10 min or more to
start it. It wears my leg out a couple of times.
This is our first dirt bike. Is this normal ?? Seems like it should
start better to me. I suspect that I need to adjust the carburetor but
am not sure how. The owners manual only addresses adjustment for the
idle speed.
I would appreciate any advice that anyone has to offer. Also maybe
someone knows of a web site that addresses this .

Maybe if you crank that throttle a few times to prime the carbs.

And keep God out of it....

Had a friend with a similar problem on a Honda, turned out that the gas tank
had sediment and 'floaters' that plugged things up until he cleaned the tank
and installed a filter inline. He now drains the carb when it is going to
sit for a while as well. The gas stabilizer mentioned elsewhere ain't a bad
idea either.

God bless you as well, and you too Bruno.

Should have told you how he figured it out in case it helps. It wouldn't
start so he loaded up on his trailer, drove about 15 miles to a shop, rolled
it off and it started on the second kick. The mechanic there was the one
that checked the fuel and said the crap in it was probably sticking things
together until it got shook up, either by jostling it when trying to start
it or bumping it around on an unsprung trailer.
Hope this helps.
