Archived from groups: alt>motorcycles>yamaha (more info?)

Hey group... I know this must be the place where the REAL Yamaha experts
hang out...

I am new to all this so I have a ton of questions...

A little about my bike:

(All work done by Yamaha East & West) Fort Worth Texas...

Added Cobra 3" Slip Ons.
Added a Hypercharger and rejeted the carbs.
Added a Tach.

I have taken 3 trips on my bike and now have 5273 miles on it...

My last trip, coming home from the Steel Pony Express Bike Rally in New
Orleans, I managed to get a mere 100 miles per tank of gas before having to
switch to reserve.... My speed was average 80 to 85.... Not good by
book....

Question 01) - Is there a way to add a bigger Gas Tank to the 1100..????

Next, my stock seat is the most uncomfortable seat I have ever sat on during
a long trip.. I am looking into getting the Mustang Seat with back
support...

Question 02) - Does any body have advice on this move.....???

As far as customizing my bike, I have found very little help on the web nor
from the Yamaha dealers... I would like to add a fairing/cowling to my bike
with a radio like the Venture Star... So far I have been unable to find
anything that is made for the 1100..

Question 03) - Are there any fairings/cowlings made for the 1100 or will any
out there fit with a little tweaking..???

Last but not least.... At the Bike Rally I ran into a guy with a Honda 1100
Shadow - 2002.... His bike blew the doors off my 1100 VStar.... In the
first place I found that my bike comes with an RPM limiter that wont let the
bike rev past 6000 rpm's on my tach and a speed limiter that wont let my
bike do better than 100 mph..... The Honda 1100 did 130 mph at 7000 rpm....

Question 04) - Is there a fix for this rpm & speed limiter or do I have to
live with it....???? Will the bike do better than 6000 rpm's and 100
mph....????

At the rally I saw tons of Choppers... Most are made that way but I also
many Honda's and Kaw's that had been Chopped by adding forks that were
designed for the bike...

Question 05) - Does such a fork extension exist for the 1100..?????

Help Please...

Al

Best information on VStars

Best performance increase on the 1100. Not found an interstate
entrance ramp yet I can't break 100 on, riding two up. Pulls like it
has an extra gear.

Even running 80 mph, I was getting 45-47 mpg in warmer weather, only
getting low 40's since it turned colder

As far as a change in the rpm limiter
Dyno3000 but you won't see much increase in power unless you do more
mods such as cams, pistons.

Mustang seat with backrest is definitely worth the money. Takes a
little while to break in but now I forget about when I used to have
trouble sitting for long periods

One of the best for prices and customer service on accessories

Fairings - many on the delphi groups say many of the HD fairings work.

If you haven't already been to cruiser customizing

Hope this helps
